Artist David Kam

Leader of the Thinkism Art Movement, the 1st fine art movement of the 21st century

David Kam is a Canadian artist who founded the 1st fine art movement of the 21st century, called the Thinkism Art Movement, on September 12, 2001 due to the events of 911. The Thinkism Art Movement hopes to bring profound change to fine art in the 21st century by using new styles and techniques, such as the "extinction style" and the "open source fine art style" to bring new energy and synthesis to fine arts. The goal of the Thinkism Art Movement is to inject a new social consciousness to fine arts, to get more artist involved in social causes, and to bring new audiences to enjoy fine arts because only 15% of the population goes to museums or art galleries.

The Extinction Style
The "Extinction Style" developed by David Kam is a fresh and new way looking at art. It injects new excitement into fine arts, just like when Picasso first helped developed the Cubism Style. In the Extinction Style, the main subject is left out to put more focus and emphasis on its surroundings, and environment.

Open Source Fine Art Style
In the "Open Source Fine Art Style" developed by David Kam,  thousands of artists are gathered together worldwide to produce a work of art. This would not have been possible until beginning of the 21st century, due to the rise of the Internet and networking technology. People will be making history by getting involved with The Book of Liberty - Freedom Project because it is the world's first open source fine art project and David believes that this type of cooperation between artists will happen more and more often due to the adaptation of broadband Internet technology.

David uses social, political, philosophical, and psychological themes in his art to make people more aware of social issues. Themes of artist David Kam's artworks, include freedom, love, life, the Internet, news vs. propaganda, peace vs. war, terrorism vs. harmony, money and poverty, hope, justice and injustice, racism, and protecting the environment.

While the Thinkism Art Movement focuses on making people more aware of social issues through art, the I Love America Foundation was founded by David Kam by 2003 to put plans into action to find solutions for social problems. The I Love America Foundation funds art campaigns to use art to bring about changes to make the world a better place.

Furthermore, David Kam is also working on creating a online blog portal, with a friendship and cultural networking exchange center called E=MC2  www.emc2.com, to create greater understanding between people of various cultures. E=MC2 is also the technology provider for the art blogs of the Book of Liberty project.

My Motto - "If you want to decorate walls, don’t call me. You better find an interior designer. I create art that makes you think!”

David uses art to invoke the viewer to think about different social issues, philosophical issues, political issues, environmental issues, psychological issues, religious issues, and other complex matters in a different light. Often, his art is married with philosophy; great thinkers such as Aristotle, Freud, and Einstein come to mind when you see my art. He likes to use different elements in various combinations to stimulate the sense of sight, taste, smell, hearing, touch, and intuition (emotion).

About the Artist

Beginning - He was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. As a child, he was labeled as the biggest trouble maker in his elementary school's history, but ironically he was also one of the school's best academic students. David jokingly says, "no teacher dared to fail me, lest they have this unholy terror again next year".

Why Art - His creativity surfaced early in life. He was one of the best art students in his high school. After a brief stint in fashion design, he completely shun arts and graduated from Industrial Engineering instead. In university, he actively help organize, as well as design posters, flyers, and publicity for various social events, and parties. Throughout his life, he has been driven to raise money for various social causes, such as cancer research, prevention of violence against women, fighting racism, fighting for freedom, protection of the environment...etc. After graduating from university, he started his own business, developing and marketing healthy beverages. His beverage label designs, and promotional music CDs brought him numerous international design awards. His creativity also allowed him to create several patent pending Internet, and technology inventions. He was thrusted back into pure fine arts due to several major events in his life: a) the terrorism of 911; b) the death of his father; c) the death of his God sister's whole family in a plane crash; and d) soft drink monopolies prevented him from expanding his beverage business; e) the stealing of his intellectual property inventions by major corporations, with more money, and power; f) his financial setback, and f) visiting Martin Luther King Jr.'s house, and exhibition in Atlanta. This made him think about making art as a vehicle to explore man's (woman's) relationship to the world, the world's relationship to man (woman), and man's (woman's) relationship to each other.

Why Thinkism - The Thinkism Art Movement was born on September 12, 2001 to enrich the mind, and to feed the soul. Since art can be meaningful beyond words, beyond culture, and beyond language, it can be used to explore various social issues. The Thinkism art movement is the fused with other disciplines; different social issues, philosophical issues, political issues, environmental issues, psychological issues, religious issues, and other complex matters are explored in this new art movement.

His Art -Currently, the issues being explored by David in his Thinkism art include: love, freedom, racism, gun control, the universe, the resilience of nature, freedom, liberty, the metamorphosis of people, computers in society, the Internet, war, television advertising on children, energy, dominance of multi-national corporations, globalization, money, the dot com corporations, animals facing extinction, terrorism, fashion in society, celebrities in society, the role of money in society, the fine line between advertising and false advertising, food in society, and sex in society.

Teachers - David says life is his biggest teacher. His engineering skills has taught him how to study different art techniques, and then apply them with ease. He is also a voracious reader of books; he reads books on science, business, philosophy, psychology, religion, fashion, arts, technology, music, geography, travel, computers, fiction, strategy, and anything else he can get my hands on.

Materials - He uses a broad spectrum of media: air, fragrances, acrylics, sounds, oils, food, watercolor, spray paint, food essences, collage, clay, plaster, metals, plastics, paper, cloth, lights, glass, and other materials. I experiment with all of them. He uses a combination of these materials to stimulate the viewer's sense of sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing, and intuition. There is no limit to the type of medium he uses.

Shows, Galleries and Connections - He just started exhibiting his Thinkism Art online, and created this website as a common ground to fuel this new art movement. He is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Philosophy - Art can be a catalyst for positive social change. Having found his calling, he wants to use art to make people think about social issues, and to empower people to make the world a better place. Since art is a universal language, it can be understood by everyone. Art is a form of self expression, that can touch a person's mind, body, and spirit. So set yourself free.

Goals - As a professional painter, and founder of the Thinkism Art Movement,  he wants to change the way people think about art, and artists. He also wants to empower individuals to make positive changes in their lives.
