2,000+ Juried Prizes
for participation in the Book of Liberty project

The juried prizes are separate and independent of the International Liberty Awards. These prizes are awarded to artists for their participation in the Book of Liberty project, in the following categories: special prize ($200,000+ value)visual arts, writing, photography, poetry, music, digital arts, and film.

Prizes: total $1,000,000 value, with 2000+ prizes granted. Winners will be published in a hardcover edition of the Book of Liberty for distribution to major bookstores, such as Barnes & Noble, Chapters-Indigo, Borders, Amazon.com ...etc. Note: all participants in Book of Liberty project will automatically receive exposure on the Book of Liberty website, and on your private artist blog ($ 1,250 value). 

Eligibility: Competition is open to artists of all geographical locations, 18 yrs. of age or older. Entry in this exhibit establishes an agreement on the part of the artist to all conditions listed in the terms of service.

Guidelines for Submissions: Artwork must be less than three years old and executed without aid of an instructor. No reproductions or copies will be accepted. Artwork must be exactly as posted on the Artist Blog. All work must be for sale. Artwork must be included in the exhibition to be eligible for award consideration. If, after your artwork may have been selected, you must ship your artwork to the Book of Liberty project prior to the 7 city worldwide exhibition.  The theme of the artwork must answer the question "What does freedom mean to you?

About the Freedom Theme:
Freedom is more than just political freedom, there is also: (a) freedom from terrorism, fear & security, (b) freedom from racism, (c) freedom from political oppression, (d) freedom of expression & freedom from injustice, (e)  freedom from sexual orientation bias, (f) freedom from gender bias, (g) freedom of religion, (h) freedom of movement & from physical constraints, (i) freedom of education & from mental constraints, and (j) freedom from poverty, (k) freedom to pursuit happiness, and whatever ideas you can think of about freedom.

The Selection Process: Votes will be cast by the general public, and final juried selection will be made by a blue ribbon committee; Artist David Kam, founder of the Thinkism Art Movement will be heading the juried committee. The prizes will be awarded to those artists who have best answered the theme of the Book of Liberty project, the theme being "What does freedom mean to you?"

Submission Rules: Entries must be made by posting the artwork on your Artist Blog or at http://www.bookofliberty.com;  See http://www.bookofliberty.com for complete information, prospectus, and instructions. File uploads are the the main method for accepted submissions, additional materials can be sent by mail to the Book of Liberty project.

The Artist Blog: the Artist Blog is sponsored by E=MC˛ Inc.. The Artist Blog is an easy to use (no html knowledge required) personal blog portal website (http://yourname.name.fm) that you will receive when you register to participate in this project. The Artist Blog is an easy way for you upload, and to publish your  images, text, music, film, and other materials for display to the general public. People will be able to visit your Artist Blog  to vote for you. The Artist Blog includes an online blog system, an art gallery, an e-card system, a voting system, private and public chat, e-mail, BBS, file exchange system, an order / payment system, and much more. The Artist Blog contains everything you need to successful promote and sell your art online. Also, as part of the E=MC˛ blog portal network, you will be able to make new friends, sell your artwork online, and connect with art collectors/art galleries.

Categories and Submission Formats:

(a) Visual arts: entries must be original oil, watercolor, gauche, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media (list all materials used), etching, woodcuts, serigraphs, drawing, and sculpture - metal, clay, wood, ceramics, enamels, small installations or any mixture in 3-D form. Please post your artwork online to your Artist Blog in .jpeg, .jpg or .gif format. If work exceeds these limitations, send a email along with details and your phone number to submissions@bookofliberty.com before submission.

(b) Writing: entries must be originals in single spaced format, not more than 750 words, and not more than 3 letter size pages long. In the event writing is submitted along with images, it will still be considered as writing. Please post your writing online to your Artist Blog in html format. If work exceeds these limitations, send a email along with details and your phone number to submissions@bookofliberty.com before submission.

(c) Photography: entries must be originals, suitable for high resolution wide format digital output will be accepted. Please post your artwork online to your Artist Blog in .jpeg, .jpg or .gif format. If work exceeds these limitations, send a email along with details and your phone number to submissions@bookofliberty.com before submission.

(d) Poetry: entries must be in single spaced format, not more than 500 words, and not more than 1 letter size page long. Please post your poem online to your Artist Blog in html format. If work exceeds these limitations, send a email along with details and your phone number to submissions@bookofliberty.com before submission.

(e) Music: upload entries must not more than 10 minutes long and the size must not exceeds 25 MB, per single song. Please post your artwork online to your Artist Blog in .mp3 format. In the event your work is larger than 10 minutes long and the size exceeds 25 MB , then you can send the material by CD, along with the confirmation number for the entry (the Artist Blog will automatically generate a confirmation number for each entry); also please send a email along with details and your phone number to submissions@bookofliberty.com before submission of your CD.

(f) Digital arts: upload entries must not more than 10 minutes long and the size must not exceeds 25 MB. Please post your artwork online to your Artist Blog in .mp4, .mov, .mpg, .html, .htm, .swf, and .svg format. In the event your work is larger than 10 minutes long and the size exceeds 25 MB , then you can send the material by CD/DVD, along with the confirmation number for the entry (the Artist Blog will automatically generate a confirmation number for each entry); also please send a email along with details and your phone number to submissions@bookofliberty.com before submission of your CD/DVD.

(g) Film: upload entries must not more than 10 minutes long and the size must not exceeds 25 MB. Please post your artwork online to your Artist Blog in mp4, .mov, .mpg, mpeg, and .swf format. Deadline for Entries: May 10, 2005. Winners will be announced July 11, 2005.

The Freedom Exhibition: the 7 city world exhibition is anticipated to commence on September 11, 2005, in New York City. The exhibition will take place in major museums and galleries to be announced. The project will be highly publicized internationally, in news, radio, and periodicals. It will include a star studded celebrity reception in New York City.

Winners: Images of the award winners will be placed on our web site at http://www.bookofliberty.com.

Entry Fee: A $ 25 donation must be made, for 2 entries. A $10 donation for each additional entry. There are 2000+ prizes, so we need lots of artwork for our worldwide Freedom Exhibition, starting in New York City. Artists will receive worldwide exposure. Donations are for a good cause; it will be used to build the International Freedom Monument for the victims of 911, for the security and maintenance of the Statue of Liberty, for publishing the Book of Liberty, for holding the International Freedom Exhibition and for the I Love America Foundation. Donations are non-refundable. Maximum of 50 entries.

Size: Size limitations for all 2-D work should be no larger than 48" x 48" including frame. 3-D work should not exceed 45 lbs. or 60" in any direction. (If work exceeds these limitations, send a email along with details and your phone number to submissions@bookofliberty.com before submission.) Three-dimensional work over 25 lbs. must be hand delivered and picked up by the artist or artist representatives.

Framing: Two-dimensional work must be framed, ready for hanging with sturdy picture wire in place. Simple, gallery style framing. Shipped work on paper must be under Plexiglas, not glass. Absolutely no saw-tooth hangers. Orientation or installation instructions should be attached to work. The juror and curatorial staff reserves the right to remove any piece from the competition improperly presented or framed or of inferior craftsmanship, and will be disqualified. 

Catalogue: Catalogues in various languages will be published and a will be available for sale.

Sales: A 40% commission on all sales will be donated to the Book of Liberty project to build the International Freedom Monument for the victims of 911, for the security and maintenance of the Statue of Liberty, for publishing the Book of Liberty, for holding the International Freedom Exhibition and for the I Love America Foundation. Artist's checks will be sent out approximately thirty days after the close of the 7 city world exhibition. The commission should be considered when setting prices. 

Shipping: There will be a $25 handling/carton storage fee for shipped artwork. A prepaid FEDEX or UPS shipping label must be included with the shipment, using a Call Tag System. No usage of “peanuts” is allowed. Crates must utilize screws-no nails. Shipped entries must be sent in reusable containers. Accepted artists will receive further shipping instructions. 

Liability: Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. Trained gallery assistants will handle all work, however exhibitors will assume responsibility for all risks, including for lost, damaged or stolen items in transit or for any reason whatsoever. The curator will notify the artist of any work that has arrived damaged. Damaged work will be repaired by the artist or at the artist's expense. Pick Up of Unsold Works: At the close of the 7 city world exhibition and sale, for any unsold works, artists will call their local UPS/Fed Ex office and request prepaid return shipment of their Call Tag package back to the address of origin; we will pack each piece in its original packing (when original packing arrives in good condition) for the return shipment and have it ready for pick up on a date to be announced by email. It will be the responsibility of the artist to arrange for both shipment and return shipment of artwork. Hand-delivered may be picked up within 2 months after the end of the 7 city world exhibition and sale. Artists unable to pick up their own work must make suitable arrangements. Any works that do not include postage or that are left behind will be stored for the 2 months after the exhibition and sale. If after 2 months, the abandoned works become the sole property of or will be disposed of by the Book of Liberty project.
